this is a modification that will address wire chaffing issues in the Panther XL. the problem
is that the main wire that connects to all of the buttons in the handle.
it goes straight down and then takes a 90 degree angle at the base of the gimbal
inside the joystick. after a bit of good use several of the wires will
break and buttons will stop working, one-by-one. my solution is to drill two holes, as
shown in the following pictures and re-route the 15 wires needed for the joystick handle.
this is a close-up
of the 15 wires reconnected and shrink tubed.
here is the first
hole drilled. the wires are now taking a much smoother route then before.
here is the other
hole i drilled in the panther XL's base where the main wire comes out.
here is the
completed modification. no more wire chaffing. for the finishing touch, i put a piece of split
tubing around the re-routed wires. the movement is good and the buttons
all work flawlessly.
